Safety Glasses

          I wanted to give you Free Safety Glasses information and why there very important. Safety glasses also called goggles are what we wear to protect our eyes when we work in an environment that’s considered an at risk area. For most people wearing Safety Glasses is an inconvenience and they tend to take them off, either because there uncomfortable or they build up with sweat and it makes it hard to see and perform your task. Well the fact of the matter is your putting your self at risk each time you decided to skip safety steps. I have notice the last few years companies have really started to make a push on Safety, and for good reason with the amount of claims that are being turned in each and every year and health cost going threw the roof. I have been in the heavy mechanic filed for over 18 years now and it’s interesting to see how the older techs tend to be stubborn about Safety and they say I have done it this way for many years now without any issues so why start now. Well that’s a true statement but when it happens and someone gets hurt the first thing you think is I should have been wearing my protective gear, like my Safety Glasses, cover shield, and all of the above.

        Well I wanted to tell a few story of guys who thought the same thing and well I am sure if they could go back in time they would defiantly do it different, Safety and wearing Safety Glasses is not something to joke about. I work for a company where we had trucks going out each and every knight, so they would pull around to the shop to have us do what’s called a pre-trip inspection. Well each of us would had our own routines for how we took care of the trucks when they pulled around, and most of us would pull the keys and go about checking the breaks and all the items we needed to before they were allowed to head on down the road. Well we had a mechanic that went about doing the normal process for checking the breaks and when the driver came back he saw the keys in the truck and thought it was ok to go, well the tech was still under the truck and ran him over. If he would have taken the time to think about what he was about to do and to think about Safety he may still be alive today. I know for my self I have many times been doing things in the shop and did not have my Safety Glasses on and get something lodge in my eyes and then I get all pissed off at my self for being stupid and not wearing my Safety Glasses. I can completely relate with why we cut corners when it comes to Safety but I also fill the pain when something happens to me or someone close to me. I would also say that Safety Glasses have come a long way in how they fit and fill; I know they have really tried to make them more customer friendly.

           A few years ago I noticed that Safety Glasses were really taking a turn for the better. They realized that guys and gals were not wearing them for the simple fact they suck, and not comfortable to wear. So why not get something that people would like and also maybe work a little safer. I am sure for all of us who work in a factory or a shop of some sort have seen or know someone who has had an eye injury from not wearing their Safety Glasses, or were guilty our selves. About two years ago I decided I wanted to join our Safety advocate team and that’s were I learn a lot about what really goes on and how many people cut corners. We had one guy that ended up with an eye patch for the rest of his life just because he was an old timer and did not want to wear his Safety Glasses and was running an engine, and like he did a 1000 times before he leaned over the engine while it was running to check the valves and something was thrown from the fan and hit him in the eye causing him to fall off the truck hitting his head and knocking him out, also he lost his eye sight in that one eye. I ask him when he came back to work what would you say to those old timers that say I have done it a million times before like this I will be fine. He told me I would just pull my eye patch off and show them how I use to say the same thing, it kind of put everything in perspective for me, hope it does the same for them.

          We have really notice a trend in our country around wellness and how there really trying to get people to think about there health. Well my thoughts are we need to get people also thinking about Safety and how they can contribute no matter what there doing. Driving and texting not Safe, talking on the phone while driving not safe, and putting on makeup in the car while driving not safe. I am not trying to bash people for doing those things, hell I am just as guilty I have done some of those, well not the makeup part but everything else yes. If we think about our actions we can save lives with out even knowing it. Wearing my Safety Glasses so that I can keep both of my eyes and enjoy my grand kids is worth a little discomfort for me to work safe. Take time to actively care, and watch out for each other, if you see a coworker working unsafe actively care and let them know, to maybe put on their Safety Glasses or put on the shield because you care.
